Eaditional folk art and craft was outmoded. Rubin left a year later to study at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he stayed for two years, also visiting Italy. He returned to Romania in 1916. During this period his work came to the attention of American photographer Alfred Stieglitz, who arranged a New York exhibition for but employed it to create distinctly new forms. In the Hotel Tassel in Brussels (1892-1893), Horta not only revealed the structural column that supports the second floor, but transformed its cast-iron form into a plantlike stem that terminates in a burst of intertwined tendrils as it connects with ot.

In 1932 the Tel Aviv Museum held a solo show for him, and his work was represented in the Venice Biennale exhibitions of 1948, 1950, and 1952. In 1973 he was awarded the Israel Prize for Art.
