Gey expressed this through an increasing simplification of form. Rather than embracing the writhing organic forms of Endell or Obrist in Munich, Viennese artists moved towards the restrained geometric designs exemplified by the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. These tendencies are evident in Rubin’s The Family (1927, Tel Aviv Museum), an early work painted in flat, bright colors that shows a traditionally clothed Israeli family at home, set against a landsca.
