In 1973 he was awarded the Israel Prize for Art. Rubin’s work can be categorized as postimpressionist ( see postimpressionism). His first influence was Swiss artist Ferdinand Hodler, but later, under the influence of French artists Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy, and especially Henri Rousseau, his work began .
