Ithe influence of French artists Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy, and especially Henri Rousseau, his work began to display a new freedom and playful romanticism. These tendencies are evident in Rubin’s The Family (1927, Tel Aviv Museum), an early work painted in flat, bright colors that shows a trais work was represented in the Venice Biennale exhibitions of 1948, 1950, and 1952. In 1973 he was awarded the Israel Prize for Art. Rubin’s work can be categorized as postimpressionist ( see postimpressionism).
